Minolta XG-M reviews/question?

I've been looking around to get a film camera, like an older one. I don't need it for anything professional I'm just pretty into photography and I wanted to try film with a decent camera. I found a Minolta XG-M with an 80mm 3.5-4.5 lens online for ~$75 including shipping and I just have some questions about the quality. Is this a durable, well made camera or like a plastic one? I'm looking for something similar to a Canon AE-1. I also have a question about batteries because I honestly didn't know film cameras had batteries and it says it does not come with one. I saw another question somewhere that made it seem like you don't NEED a battery but I don't know if that's like totally ridiculous or not, so do you need a battery, what kind, and are they hard/expensive to find? And lastly for people who have had this camera or similar models, did you like it? And any tips for using it? All help greatly appreciated :)
